Syba Signs Story

Syba Signs is Australia’s and New Zealand’s leading supplier of library signage to schools. Established in 1998, Syba’s products and services have enhanced school learning environments with signage that is both educationally sound and attractive. Syba’s reach extends beyond Australia and New Zealand and we are proud our signage is now in more than 10,000 schools worldwide.

Syba Signs was created by current Director and owner, Phyl Coath Williamson. After many years teaching in various roles including as teacher librarian, Phyl believed that there was an urgent need to assist schools, particularly school libraries, to enhance their physical environments with colour, directional signage, educational posters and other products that encouraged learning, interest, support and excitement. The establishment of Syba Signs coincided with a time where libraries, including school libraries, were changing from a traditional process- centered approach to a client-centered approach and consequently awareness of the needs of the students was becoming a priority.

By attending library network meetings and school library conferences Phyl was able to extend the offer of her service to a wide group of librarians initially in New South Wales but in a relatively short time the service was offered to all schools in Australia and very early on the service was introduced in the United States of America, New Zealand and to many International schools in Asia. Syba’s customers now include schools from over 40 countries. As well as supplying signage for school libraries,.

Syba Signs now offers a range of professional development programs for teacher-librarians and other educational personnel through it's professional learning arm, Syba Academy. These programs were initially developed in response to our clients in New South Wales, who requested professional development opportunities with a school library focus. Our professional learning now spans all over Australia and internationally.

Our Service

Since our inception, we have been conscious of creating a culture where our customers are always treated with respect and priority. As a result of our positive response to customers and their response to us, we have created many long term and ongoing relationships with librarians, teachers and principals in a large number of schools throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific region. Our aim is to always listen to customers and to develop products and professional development services consistent with their current needs and as a result we have a culture of providing excellent customer service and consistency of product and services.

Our products include directional, educational and motivational signage, books, and educational resources. Syba’s reach extends beyond Australia and we are proud our signage is now in more than 10,000 schools worldwide. Our teaching resources assist teacher librarians in their teaching programs and are in line with current educational theory and curriculum. Our signage assists library users to find resources and use the library effortlessly thus increasing their ease and confidence with research tasks and searcing for reading for pleasure.

Traditionally we have created products that directly fulfill the needs of modern schools and public libraries. We have done this by personal involvement with libraries, attending network meetings and other conferences and encouraging our customers to ask for what they need. In this way our products have been consistently current and useful.
