What's News @ Syba?

Thursday, July 24, 2014

Syba is excited to announce three all new collaborative partnerships, a range of new products and all new professional learning opportunities.

Collaborative Partnerships:

Permission to create and print useful products based on “Guided Inquiry Design”

We’ve had many requests to reproduce the Guided Inquiry Design icons created by Carol Kuhlthau, Leslie Maniotes, and Ann Caspari and happily we are now able to offer you three versions of the framework for you to use when taking your students through the Guided Inquiry Design process.

The new products include posters, large reusable wall graphics and a word wall. We hope these products will enhance the Guided Inquiry learning and teaching experience.

A collaborative partnership with SCIS and Syba Signs

Syba Signs gained permission to sell genre labels based on SCIS subject heading 10 years ago, but now we are happy to announce a collaborative partnership with SCIS.

Genre subjects headings are based on publishing trends and customer requests and are updated regularly through our partnership.

We recently agreed to add the following Genre Spine Labels to our existing collection; Traditional Stories, Graphic Novels, Sustainability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture, Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia.

These additional Genres are now available along with our exisiting range as spine labels, overview posters and dividers.

An agreement with Pledger Consulting to become exclusive distributors of their wide range of products in Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific.

This is a most exciting opportunity for Syba. We’ve always admired the work of Pledger Consulting and are proud to be able distribute the full range of their products including LinksPlus, WebLinks, ZenHat (App), Read Plus and of course their excellent range of books. For more information view our all new Syba group division 'Syba Digital' which will hold our ever growing range of digital products and resources.

New Products

In addition to the collaborative partnerships established we would also like to highlight a number of new products:

Wall Graphics

We have been thrilled with your response to our “WallGraphics” that produce an excellent eye catching display on many topics. This term, we have three new wall graphics including Guided Inquiry Design, Thinking about Thinking  and The Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy including new digital tools.

Our wall graphics can be positioned on any smooth surface including painted walls, windows, circulation desks and bay ends. View our full wall graphic range in one convenient location or contact us for custom wall graphics to suit any space.

Book Week

Book week is 16th to 22nd August. Prepare the staff and children at your school by choosing to display one of our Book Week products which include a theme poster, banner and vinyl lettering for your windows. If you are hosting a book fair why not order our all new book donation labels and use to recognise donors contributions.

Syba Academy News

We are excited to announce that Syba Academy is planning to run an annual “Connected Educator Summit” and the inaugural Summit will be held in August in Sydney

Our first guest presenter for this new “Connected Educator Summit” will be Will Richardson who is a challenging and transformative world leading educational visionary. Many of you will know him and some will remember from our series with Will in 2008 and 2009.

The title of the day is “New Literacies for Networked, Self-Directed Learners and Makers”. Will will examine the pedagogical shifts in education required to help students develop as networked, self-directed learners and makers. The day also provides participants the opportunity to plan for change as a connected educator.

Join with us as we celebrate this new Summit series being run in Sydney on the 14th August. Visit www.sybaacademy.com.au for more information and to register.

Further Opportunities

We are proud to announce that our new Digital Citizenship(Online extension course) will be re-run on the 13th October. This is a four-week course designed to provide teachers, teacher librarians, curriculum and elearning coordinators with an opportunity to develop digital citizenship policy and programs to the specific needs of their school. This course is capped at 30 and because of the success earlier in the year when it was presented we are delighted to run it again.

Please note that all our courses are aligned to AITSL National Standards for Teachers, and accredited in the ACT and NSW with Teacher Quality Institute ACT and NSW Institute of Teachers’ standards respectively.

Cheers,
The Syba Team
