Book Week Display Competition 2015

Monday, August 24, 2015

And the winner is...

Heatley Secondary College, QLD

We are delighted to announce that after some very difficult deliberations, Heatley Secondary College have won the inaugural, Syba Signs Book Week Display Competition. Thank you to all the entrants, we were overwhelmed with the shear number and quality of the displays shared with us. We are actually feeling a little envious we won't be partaking in all the fun this week, so thanks for making us feel part of it!

A special thank you to Patricia Kratzmann, Teacher Aide in the library at Heatley Secondary College in Townsville, Queensland for sharing your Book Week Displays with us!! We hope you are able to put the $100 Syba Signs online voucher to good use to help create future displays in your library!

We love Patricia's passion! Patricia says "I love putting up displays in the library as the students always seem to be engaged with the subject I choose to display. I can't teach the students during class time however I try to educate them through my displays when they visit the library. I like to follow the curriculum being taught during the term...For Book week I wanted to embrace the theme "books light up our world" so I made some giant light bulbs and used fireworks as a background to light up our world. I also made a giant book and put the shortlist sections inside...I love my job at Heatley Secondary College and my displays have become quite popular amongst the students and teachers.

And the runner up is...

Aberfoyle Park Campus Library, SA

Thank you to Jo Schenkel for putting forward your entry! Keep your eyes peeled for a package containing Book Week 2015 Bookmarks and a copy of the Book Week Ideas & Activities book title which will arrive at your school this week.

The displays created by Jo and her team were inspired by the Lighthouse Keeper Books and Sally Heinrich's book The Most Beautiful Lantern. Check out all Aberfoyle Park Campus Displays neatly collated in a PhotoPeach and embedded on their Library blog. What a great idea!

Special mention goes to...

Alstonville Public Library, NSW

Thank you Nicole for sharing with us displays from the Richmond-Tweed Regional Libraries branches. Congratulations to Alsonville Public Library, in particular the work of the local preschool students in creating relevant displays for this years book week theme! Keep an eye out for some Alphabet Friezes to help brighten your preschools and junior fiction reading spaces.

Thank you again to everyone who entered. We have collated some of the entries into the gallery below for you because we couldn't possibly keep these fab displays all to ourselves, just click on a thumbnail to view larger images.
