National Week 2012

Australia's safe and supportive school communities get together.

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Friday 15th of March will mark the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, this is an opportunity for students, teachers and the wider community to stand together for a worthy cause.

This year’s theme calls us to Stand Together; it aims to highlight the important role bystanders play in the bullying context. So often in life it is our response to situations that dictate their impact. Analysing and reflecting on the ways in which bystanders can change the dynamic within a bullying context is a proactive and empowering technique to help encourage positive behaviour in challenging circumstances.

Fostering a supportive learning environment is a key step towards building confident and proactive students who will feel safe to acknowledge and respond appropriately to bullying in their community.

We love to hear what’s going on in your schools and libraries so let us know what you will be doing to Stand Together. If you are looking for inspiration there are a number of useful resources available on the Bullying No Way website including a lesson plan aligned with the Australian National Curriculum General Capabilities. For more resources you can check out our Freedom from Bullying range and 5 steps to Freedom from Cyber bullying. The Kids Helpline website also has some really useful resources.

Standing together,

Mary, Mollie and the Syba team.
