The Web is changing the way we learn, the way we define an education, and the way we think about work, all of which has huge implications for our children. Those who understand the powerful affordances of the Internet to learn and create will flourish, and those who understand how to leverage those affordances for the greater good will lead. That requires a whole set of new literacies, ones that deal with not just reading and writing but collecting, creating, connecting, sharing, and sense making. Evidence of these new literacies can be found in the new Australian Curriculum, and teachers need to explore ways to effectively integrate these into their classroom. In this seminar, Will Richardson examines the pedagogical shifts in education required to help students develop as networked, self-directed learners and makers, and provides participants with the opportunity to plan for change as a connected educator.

Participants can expect to:

  • rethink schooling within the context of our students’ futures, who need to survive and flourish in a fast changing, networked and connected world
  • reflect on their own practice as self-directed learners and connected educators
  • explore the new literacies that students require to function effectively as networked, self-directed learners and makers
  • examine their own teaching practice to better model these new literacies
  • envision and design new classrooms, schools and practices to fully serve networked, self-directed learners and makers
  • develop a 5 days-5 months-5 years plan for changing personal learning practice.

This seminar is designed for classroom teachers (primary and secondary), directors of e-learning and learning technology coordinators, curriculum coordinators, teacher librarians, and assistant/deputy and school principals.
